THE BIG CHALLENGE

The First European English

Contest for Schools

This is the first European English contest for schools organized in France since 1999, in Germany since 2005 and now in Spain since 2007.

As some of you remember, sixty-seven students participated in The Big Challenge held in May in 2008 for the first time. It was a fun experience and it motivated students learning English. They enjoyed the experience and we organized a special assembly to award prizes. We gave them diplomas, birthday books, leaflets, bookworm readers, CDs and dictionaries. We also took several photos. You can have a look at them clicking the PHOTO GALLERY.

This gallery contains a selection of photos taken after the contest, when your teachers gave you the prizes won.

For this reason, we are once again preparing for the next contest on 7th May.

As several students insisted, we have registered them for the next edition; the Big Challenge posters are displayed in our school and 48 students have been registered. The contest fees have been paid by the students and the school.

Now it is time to practice complete questionnaires or enjoy the quizzes in the computer Lab.

If you want to practice your English, you can make some quizzes clicking here:

Have fun doing them.

And this year you can also find a new internet tool: The Big Challenge Club. There you can

⇒Make new friends all over the world! You can communicate with them by email, in a chat room or with a webcam.

⇒Find pen pals to practice your English. Like you, a lot of students are learning English. They are all the same age, at the same level and want to speak another language.

⇒Have a real conversation using audio/video chat.

⇒Chat safely: all members and photos are checked and approved by moderators. You can chat on internet with young people all over the world.

STORYTELLING

We know that storytelling can contribute to student academic success and emotional well being. It is accessible to all ages and abilities. No special equipment is needed beyond the imagination to create good stories. As a learning tool, storytelling can encourage students to explore their unique expressiveness and can heighten a student's ability to communicate thoughts and feelings in an articulate, lucid manner.

For these reasons, our students of the third course of Compulsory Secondary Education have invented and written their own stories. We have selected two of them for all of you to enjoy reading them. Enter the world of imagination with these great stories.

1. Alicia Belloso´s tale. The mysterious door.

2. Daniel Sánchez Mateos´ tale. The mysterious looked door.

Perhaps we can create a collection with more stories. If you want to send us your own ones, get in touch with us.
